Here are some of Haltech's major EFI componets,
Software
Haltech DOS
software has been rated highly by many users and is one of the most easy
to use programs for aftermarket ECU’s. The use of bar graphs to display
information combined with the ability to manipulate the bars without
numerical entry, means that the fuel and ignition points can be easily
manipulated in real time. This can save valuable tuning time resulting in
less time on the dyno. This translates into cost savings for the end user.

The screen
shot above shows the Fuel map programming screen for the E6K software. The
displayed RPM range is 4500rpm across the full range of load. A series of
these load maps construct the 3D fuel map. The engine data is display
below in the green section to show current RPM, load, temperatures etc.
|
|
 |
|
Haltech
Software supports many correction maps for coolant temperature, air
temperature, battery voltage, barometric pressure. Additional maps such as
the cranking maps, throttle pump maps and primer maps add to the
drivability and general quality of engine running and starting. These
features help make a modified engine start and idle as well as most
factory OEM ecu’s running factory engines.
|
|
 |
|
Many
auxiliary options can be controlled through the PWM and output options
programming screens. Options can be programmed and disabled if desired.
|
Extra Driver
This
unit can be used in applications where the electrical load of
the fuel injectors exceeds the ability of the ECU to drive them,
therefore it acts to boost the signal from the ECU. For
example an ECU that can operate 8 low impedance or 16 high
impedance injectors as its maximum, would require additional
injector drivers for somebody wishing to run 8 or more low
impedance injectors. Each injector driver box has 2
channels with 2 injector driver outputs on each channel.
This allows this unit to drive up to an additional 4 low or 8
high impedance injectors and can be used with any of the Haltech
ECU engine management systems.
|
|
|
 |
NB:
These units are application specific, Haltech or its representatives
should be contacted for assistance when ordering an extra injector
driver box.

Haltuner
The
new Haltuner is a fast and easy way to visualize the tuning of
your car. Using your built in O2 sensor or one provided in the
kit, you can display the current reading on the Haltuners 30 LED
display. With the Haltuner hooked up to your car, you can see
the results of the cars computer in real time.
|
|
|
 |
 |
|
The
display is divided up into three sections representing lean, stoic and
rich. The colours change to indicate which section you are in. Each
section has 10 LEDs to provide a useful reading of your O2 sensor.

Hall Sensor
The Haltech
dual Hall Effect sensor has been in production for a number of years and
it has been a popular item due to it’s ability to be able to generate
both home and trigger signals from the one sensor.
Very
occasionally there have been reports of problems caused by the
temperature rating of the main chip in the system so we have reacted by
sourcing components with higher temperature ratings. The main chip in
Haltech dual Hall Efect sensors (both S1 and S2 variations) now has an
improved temperature rating of 125 degrees C commencing with sensors
manufactured from mid-August 2000.
The S1 and
S2 sensors are used in conjunction with rare earth magnets which must be
mounted in non-ferrous surrounds. It is vital to use Haltech supplied
rare earth magnets. You may buy cheaper rare earth magnets at your local
electronic store but there are many different types of rare earth
magnets made from different materials and with greatly differing
properties. Some magnets don’t have the required magnetic properties
and others will fail at higher temperatures. Others will work correctly
at first but will fail over time, particularly at high temperatures. The
rare earth magnets supplied by Haltech are carefully chosen for their
magnetic and temperature properties to give a long life even if operated
at fairly high temperatures. Don’t spoil your installation for the
sake of a few extra dollars!

Wiring

|
|
|
 |
A
“Flying Lead” loom refers to a non-terminated wiring
connections. Meaning the wiring has been left without
terminals so that the user can fit the wiring loom and then cut
the wiring to the desired length when installing the Kit. Once
in place the terminal and connector plugs can be attached |

Modules
The
Ignition module is an amplifier designed to fire an electronic ignition
coil. The ECU ignition signal connects to the ignition module, which
then fires the ignition coil.
There
are two main types of Ignition Modules, they are:
|
 |
|
|
SMART
MODULES:
also
known as ‘self dwell control’ and ‘constant duty ignitor’,
this controls its dwell. The Bosch ignition module available
from HALTECH is a ‘Constant Duty’ ignition module.
|
DUMB
MODULES:
also
known as ‘ECU dwell control’ and ‘constant charge ignitor’,
this module needs the ECU to control the dwell. The M&W
ignition modules available from HALTECH is a ‘Constant
Charge’ ignition module

Single
Channel
(M&W1
or Bosch)
Suitable
to fire one coil, commonly used in a distributor application.
|

|

|
Dual
Channel
(M&W2)
Suitable
to fire two ignition coils, commonly used in a 4 cylinder direct
fire wasted spark application.
|

|
|
Triple
Channel (M&W3)
